Randall Sexton

"My concerns as a painter have always been rather straight forward, that is to lose myself in the moment while I work, and always be open to new approaches. Nature has proven to be the most demanding and inspiring teacher....so I work from life as often as possible."
Each painting is a simple sentence in an ongoing story of what will later unfold. My tale is a compilation of images that reflect the magic of life itself and the mysteries of light, color, and shape as I respond to the world around me. Painting has enabled me to be more observant and appreciative of the beauty and richness of everyday life."
Primarily known for his bold and colorful Plein Air paintings of Northern California, Sexton enjoys working in the studio as well. The direct and spontaneous nature of Plein Air painting has informed all of his painting subjects, be they still-life, figurative, or studio work based on his studies and travels.
Highly sought as an instructor, he has a "hands on" approach to teaching that involves sharing his techniques and knowledge; yet is focused on the individual needs of each student. He has been teaching classes at the Academy of Art in San Francisco and leading workshops in the Bay Area since 1995.

Randall was born in East Hampton Connecticut, and currently resides in Vallejo, California. His studio is in nearby Crockett.
He is a member of the Baywood Artists Group, Te Northern California Painters Group, The Outsiders, California Art Club, and The Laguna Plein Air Painters Association.
